Margaret Sylva 100, a resident of Wakefield and formerly of Everett passed away at the Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield on Saturday October 11.
Margaret was born on July 29, 1920 in Everett, one of four children of the late James Flynn and Margaret (Lucas) Flynn. She was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School.
Margaret worked as a comptroller operator in the first national office of the Exxon Corp. She continued to work until she and her loving husband Gilbert started their family. They began their life together in Everett and raised their family of five children.
Mrs. Sylva was active in her community and church. She was a den mother for the cub scouts for 30 years in addition to raising her five children. Mrs. Sylva loved bowling, knitting for her girls’ club, baking of course with five children loving everything and gardening. She was a devote member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Margaret and her sister Theresa could be seen every Sunday walking down to Sunday Mass.
Margaret, as matriarch of her family, led by example. She was a great listener who also had the ability to connect with family and friends, young and old. She was truly respected by all in the community. Always full of life and loving every minute she had with her family and friends; she will be forever missed. Her faithful, loving and inspiring life will be her legacy.
Margaret was the beloved wife of her husband Gilbert Sylva who predeceased her in 2002. She was the devoted mother of Anne Doron and her husband Frank of Everett, Gilbert and his wife Sandra of Malden and the late Steven and his late wife Arlene, Margaret “Peggy” and John. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and her daughter-in law Roberta of Mansfield. Margaret was the sister of the late James Flynn, Theresa Flynn and Eleanor Powers.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11am in the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hour will be held at the Murphy O’Hara Funeral Home 519 Broadway Everett from 10 to 11 am on Friday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
