Gerald A ("Jay") DeBenedetto

July 9, 1932 ~ August 10, 2018 (age 86)

Gerald  “Jay” DeBenedetto passed away on August 10, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a short illness. Jay was born in East Boston on July 9, 1932, one of four children of the late Agostino and Mary (Pierro) DeBenedetto.  The family moved from East Boston to Everett when Jay was a teenager and he has lived in Everett his whole adult life. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. In 1958, he married the love of his life Marguerite and at the end of this month they will be married for 60 years. They began their life together in Everett and raised their four children. Before his retirement, Jay worked as a printer/typesetter for T.O. Metcalf Company. He was active in his community and served as Exalted Ruler of the Stoneham Lodge of Elks, member of The American Legion, Lynn and member of the Saugus/Everett Lodge of Elks. Besides being active in various organizations, Jay was a true New Englander with his love of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. You could also find him gardening, fishing and boating. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Marguerite (Parsons) DeBenedetto; his children Kevin DeBenedetto of Methuen, James DeBenedetto and Naomi Gonzalez of Billerica, Karen Haggerty of Leominster and Denise Costa of Malden. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Josephine Caprio of Billerica, Albert DeBenedetto and his wife Sandra of NH and the late Anthony DeBenedetto. Funeral services on Wednesday at 11am at the Murphy O’Hara Funeral Home 519 Broadway Everett followed by interment in Glenwood Cemetery Everett with full military honors. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm.
